St Marys, Georgia, jumping off point for the ferry to Cumberland Island National Seashore bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoyed a day exploring Georgia's largest and southernmost barrier island.  The island is home to the Carnegie Manson, Dungeness, and a herd of about 150 feral horses. Paths take you through a canopy of live oak trees through salt water marshes and dunes to the beach.....

St Marys is a historic small town, site of one of the final battles of the War of 1812 and was occupied by Northern sailors during the Civil War.  Located adjacent to St Mary is the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base home to Trident nuclear powered submarines.  The base in a very secure facility so we were not able to get any pictures. However, we were able to visit the Submarine Museum....

The following are pictures of the historic area of St Marys....

Our Lady of the Sea, the oldest masonry building in Georgia

First Presbyterian, oldest church in Georgia in continuous use, built in 1808

St Marys waterfront, shrimping is a major industry in the area.....

We celebrated St Patrick's day while in St Marys.....

Off to Macon, Georgia.
